Elevating

Dr. Michael Wright Fazio was an architectural historian, author and educator at Mississippi State University's College of Architecture, Art and Design since its founding in 1974. His indelible imprint on the profession cannot be overstated.

In 2017 while sharing coffee with Amber Lombardo (Executive Director of AIA Mississippi at the time), Michael imagined a future that could deliver the architectural story through the mapping apps that also deliver tourism content. He longed for his students and contemporaries to be properly credited for their ingenuity and creative works.

In February 2020, Michael passed away after a long battle with Leukemia, writing manuscripts until the very end.

In March 2021, Buildings of Mississippi, a book he co-authored with longtime friend and colleague, Jennifer Baughn, finally landed in book stores and will serve as a lasting interpretation of the state's complex landscape.

Learn more about Michael's career and accomplishments to understand why Fazio, the mobile app indexing architectural treasures, bears his name as a reminder to pursue the craft with excellence, humility and an insatiable appetite for understanding the broader societal story through the spaces we inhabit.

Godspeed, good friend.
