School Design Beyond the Basics - Using the Design Process to Engage the Community and Expand STEAM Career Awareness
STEAM is an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking. The end results are students who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration, and work through the creative process. These are the innovators, educators, leaders, and learners of the 21st century!

Since the Memphis Business Academy (MBA) was created in 2005, the school has focused on making a difference with children in the Memphis area. Their belief is that by relating academic subjects to the business world, they help their students build a better future and encourage their "young executives" to one day help support the economic well-being of Memphis.
The Owner and Design Team were committed to achieving a new facility that is an aesthetically pleasing, well planned multi–use building that makes a positive statement for the Memphis Business Academy and the community of Frayser. The project also provided a unique opportunity to both engage the surrounding community and expose the students to the design process both as users and future clients.
