AIA Memphis hosts the Third Thursday: Lectures on Local Design series on the third Thursday of each month. Open to the public, Third Thursdays are hosted by local architects and designers as they share their knowledge and experience with projects in the Mid-South and beyond.

Each lecture offers AIA Learning Unit credit. Reservations are required.

Participants will explore the design process behind the conversion of two historic buildings into loft apartments in downtown Memphis.

The Historic Winchester Building Hotel Conversion presented by Nick Kozlowski  | UrbanARCH

Participants will:

  • learn about the history of this historic building in downtown Memphis, and its multiple uses over time.
  • explore the design process behind adapting the building from its most recent use as office space to become an urban hotel.
  • explore strategies implemented to bring the historic property up to current life safety and accessibility codes. 
  • learn about the architectural design package, and coordination with the separate FFE Procurement / Interior Design Package.
