The Distinguished Architects of the World Series lecture is presented annually with Memphis In May International Festival to celebrate the outstanding architecture and design of the celebrated country. Join us as we explore the unique architectural, cultural, social and economic environment of this year’s featured country – Poland.

About Piotr Lewicki

Piotr Lewicki, born 1966 in Zabrze, is a graduate of the August Witkowski High School in Kraków (1985) and the Faculty of Architecture, Kraków University of Technology (1990, doctoral thesis 1999). From 1992-99 he taught at the Urban Design Institute (Kraków University of Technology) and from 2003-2009 at the Faculty of Architecture and Fine Arts at Kraków Frycz Modrzewski Academy. Member of the Polish Association of Architects and Polish Chamber of Architects obtained his professional license in 2002.

Since 1988 he has worked in partnership with Kazimierz Łatak. In 1995 they established the Biuro Projektów Lewicki Łatak, today a well known Polish architectural practice and winner of awards from archtectural competitions. These awards include most notably the Kraków designs such as Heroes of the Ghetto Square and Nowy Square, Cracovia Centennial Sport Hall, the Kazimierz – Ludwinów pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the Vistula river. The Heroes of the Ghetto Square also received honorable mention in the prestigious Euro­pean Prize for Urban Public Space competition (Barcelona, 2006) and the Gold Award in the Urban Quality Award competition (Frankfurt am Main, 2011). The firm’s Corte Verona apartment building project in Wrocław received the Grand Prix in the Beatiful Wrocław competition for the best design of the year (2010), honorable mention in the national Award of the Year competition, and was a finalist in the Life in Architecture competition (2012). These projects, as well as others, have been covered in both the Polish and international media.

Piotr Lewicki and Kazimierz Łatak received the prestigious Kraków Association of Architects’ Award in 2004 and were recipients as well as Professional of the Year (2013) awarded by Forbes magazine.
