South City Development
Presented by Rob Norcross, AIA | Principal, Looney Ricks Kiss and Mairi Albertson | Planning Administrator, Division of Housing and Community Development
Rob Norcross, AIA, and Mairi Albertson will discuss developments on the South City/Foote Homes project. Should Memphis win a 2015 Choice Neighborhoods grant, South City will be redeveloped as a neighborhood to provide housing and healthy choices for the underserved. The planning work done in conjunction with LRK, the Memphis Housing Authority, Housing and Community Development, McCormick Barron Salazar and Archie Willis is about more than housing: it’s about jobs, schools, health, the environment – it’s about creating communities with the assets that families need to truly thrive.
Human renewal is dependent on physical renewal: housing and communities represent people. The final test of the project will be whether it meets human needs, secures human dignity and adds to quality of life. Working together can empower residents with the tools they need to thrive, achieve upward mobility and improve their quality of life.
